I haven't tried the bs player yet but have heard good things about it from friends (uses little resources). The VLC player,imho is quite good. It isn't sleek or pretty but it'll play practically any media file. I'll take a look at the songbird player though just for giggles if nothing else. I agree with your assessment of Winamp and put it on the same level as WMP, yuck. Its a shame too as Winamp used to be a very good player I felt.
